Tech Unlimited

Tech Unlimited utilizes technology tools, computer science thinking, and social-emotional learning to ignite unlimited futures for neurodiverse students.
Tech Unlimited (TU) focuses on neurodiverse students ages 10 to 24 who experience things like autism, ADHD, language-based learning disabilities, and auditory, sensory, and learning challenges. TU creates opportunities for them to explore the creative power of tech in ways that are accessible. In TU programs, students learn design thinking, practice work readiness skills, and build confidence through virtual and in-person programs, in a fun and supportive community. TU’s unique model and 4:1 adult-to-student ratio removes barriers to learning and ensures that every student has the attention they need to thrive.

“I learned to ask questions, learn new techniques from my supervisor, and listen to feedback.”

Career Ready Summer Internship Program

Collective impact

2025
Support from the Akamai Foundation enabled Tech Unlimited to expand and strengthen “Career Ladder,” a suite of six work-based learning programs that serve neurodiverse young adults ages 15–24. As a result, students gained access to a suite of programs such as supported internships, industry-relevant training, and mentorship experiences that translated into gains in skill development, independence, and career readiness.

2023
The Akamai Foundation’s grant helped to fund the pilot Career Ladder program, a 12-week online program that mimics a workplace, intentionally designed for young people with advanced tech skills who learn differently. Participants were paid a stipend for their contributions and worked together to complete projects for real clients.

After more than three years of engagement with TU, taking part in many STEM programs, one student expressed his desire to share his knowledge and love of technology. In 2023, he joined the TU staff as a classroom counselor. TU programs, supported by the Akamai Foundation, help neurodiverse students acquire technical skills and gain the confidence to give back.

2022
TU provided educational opportunities to 500+ students in the Greater New York City area, with 75% of TU students able to receive financial aid.
