STEM From Dance empowers girls of color with the know-how, experience, and confidence to dream big in STEM, all through the medium of dance.
STEM From Dance’s curriculum explores the intersection of dance and technology, engaging students in project-based, hands-on experiences that integrate STEM and the performing arts. The organization’s sequence programs provide a pathway in movement and STEM, encouraging students of every age and helping them along their journey.

Collective impact
2025
STEM From Dance scaled from serving girls exclusively in New York City to operating nationally across eight cities. With support from the Akamai Foundation, STEM From Dance reached a milestone of serving more than 5,000 students.
2022
Akamai invited STEM From Dance to ring the closing bell at NASDAQ. For STEM From Dance participants, standing on that stage was a profound moment. They performed in front of financial and technology leaders. They stood shoulder to shoulder with Akamai’s leadership team. They claimed space on one of the most recognizable stages in global business.
2021
With support from the Akamai Foundation, SFD served 230 students, ages 10 to 18 years old, from low-income neighborhoods. Over 80% of participants reported having a better understanding of STEM than when they started.
