Foundation for Excellence (FFE) partnered with the Akamai Foundation to bolster their efforts, providing STEM skill development, mentorship, and 75 scholarships for education in engineering. The FFE-Akamai Scholarship Program prioritized inclusive outreach, ensuring meaningful representation of women and persons with disabilities within the scholar cohorts. FFE’s use of virtual platforms further reduced geographic and logistical barriers, making the program accessible to more students across India.
Aspiring engineer Gobika K. was raised in Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu, where her father farms to sustain her family. Her strong interest in technology, as well as her desire to solve real-world problems using artificial intelligence and data science, motivated Gobika to pursue higher education in engineering. Determined not to be hindered by her financial constraints, she applied for the FFE-Akamai Scholarship Program and has been supported by both the Akamai Foundation and Akamai Technologies India since FY 2023-24. The program enabled her to continue her education, focusing on academics without placing additional financial pressure on her parents. The scholarship plays a crucial role in helping her move closer to her goal of becoming a Data Scientist.
The Akamai Foundation will support 60 FFE engineering scholars each year from FY 2025-26 onward, further expanding the organization’s impact on STEM education in India. From 2024 to 2025, FFE awarded 18,884 students with scholarships.
